Savoy Elementary School’s 2024 Staff Member of the Year

Eugene Banks is a passionate educational leader with more than a decade of results-driven excellence in teaching, coaching, and empowering school communities. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Eugene embodies a growth mindset and a commitment to personal transformation; values that fuel his work with both educators and scholars.

He is a proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Eugene later completed his Master’s in Education at Relay Graduate School of Education, deepening his expertise in culturally responsive teaching and instructional leadership.

Dedicated to helping young scholars thrive, Eugene currently serves as a K–5 Math Instructional Coach at Savoy Elementary School in Southeast Washington, D.C. He is also the author of Young Black Boy and Young Black Girl, two affirmation-centered children’s books that celebrate identity, brilliance, and possibility for Black and Brown students.

Beyond the classroom, Eugene is the co-founder of Competitive By Nature, a community health nonprofit focused on wellness, resilience, and mentorship. His greatest passions include faith, family, fitness, service, and uplifting the next generation through transformational educational experiences.
